The Mystery of Loco Lane
About
Henry Travis inherits his uncle’s dilapidated houseboat, and a dog named Captain, after he drowned in a drunken spill. Nestled at the cheap end of Locando Lane near a cove once pillaged by pirates and known locally as Loco Lane. This, in Henry’s mind, explains a few of the residents.
Also retrieved from the murky water is the body of a young woman. That brings in a Santa Barbara investigator named Dwayne “Dee” Brightback to learn the identity of the woman and why she was found dead entangled with another body.
Henry’s efforts at privacy are thwarted when a very much alive young woman crashes into his small space, insisting his uncle had been searching for her friend Jena who has gone missing. Forced to assimilate into the search for the identity of the second body, to his - and the investigating officer’s - chagrin it’s a community effort as they search for clues. Soon another body appears, an undercover DEA agent. How is it connected?
Meanwhile plans for Founders Day continue - Henry is the reluctant and newly appointed Sheriff for the AHOY MATEY extravaganza. Delving into both leads him into danger, being trapped in a burning building. Taking the reins his newly discovered cousin is almost killed. He learns not all is what it seems and sometimes taking a chance on people can open doors to a new and adventurous life, a pirate’s life for him.
