Divorce, Hollywood Style
About
Jackie Dale has it all. A previous career as a Hollywood actor, a gorgeous husband, a new career as creator of her husband’s upcoming TV show. What could go wrong?
Almost everything. Her role in her husband’s show was removed by the director. Soon, photos surfaced of his affair with his co-star. Revenge is a dish best served hot, in a stunning dress on the arms of an action hero star, at a paparazzi magnet party.
In her anguish at seeing her husband unexpectedly show up with the femme fatale, she hid in the hostess’s closet, where she found her costume, pilfered from a long ago musical. Did it still fit?
Blame it on the champagne. Trying on the outfit, she was interrupted by a loud scream, sending her down the hall in a trenchcoat with not much underneath, as seemingly the entire LAPD descended on the crime scene. Her stuntman ex-husband, Gary Lee, was found over a dead body, holding a smoking gun.
The police, logically, believe Gary Lee had fired the gun in a failed robbery attempt. As a stuntman, climbing up the trellis would be a cinch. Plus, he was high on the pain killing drugs that had cost him his career. And he was friends with the owner of the gun.
Evidence aside, Jackie knows he would never hurt anyone. He’s self destructive, not violent. He could have simply dived out the window and likely made a getaway. But in police custody, his alibi that he was robbing a safe, to get a real world feel for his next film about robbing the rich, sank his chances.
Shady financial dealings in real estate and the movie world, no one quite knew where the victim’s money materialized. Was he involved in not so legal schemes? With a suspect in custody, she believes the police will stop investigating. Gary Lee, divorce notwithstanding, had been there for her. She would not let him down.
